It’s not surprising that the Church is mocked and God is mocked in America today. The Church talks about signs and wonders more than who Jesus is and what He accomplished on Calvary and after Calvary. If we do agree who Jesus is, we disagree on what He accomplished through His death and resurrection.
Unless the Church can believe that Jesus IS:
- more than just a ticket out of Hell
- truly the Son of the Living God
- is the one who took upon Himself the penalty of our sin
- the one who defeated death and rose again
- the one who sent the Holy Spirit into our lives to empower us, to give us life
Then how can we be witnesses and partakers of His divine nature? The bible says, we perish for lack of knowledge(Hosea 4:6). Unfortunately, I’ve seen many people preach signs and wonders and counterfeit the signs. I have to admit it does make me wonder though, why do these people think they have to try and force God to do something? God said He would do it if we believe He IS.
If we call ourselves believers, disciples even, then we will do what He said. Christ said, if you love me, then you will obey my commandments. His commandments are few, He isn’t a hard task master and really Christ simplified it: All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.(Matthew 22:40):
- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.(Matthew 22:37)
- Love your neighbor as yourself.(Matthew 22:39)
If you love God, you will obey Him and open your mouth and tell people the Gospel. If you love your neighbor you will open your mouth and tell them the Gospel and you will do it all in love.
Then those signs and wonders we read about, that we keep hearing about… will follow because the truth that can penetrate and divide the soul and the spirit, marrow and joint, even judge the thoughts and attitudes of our heart (Hebrews 4:12) will reveal to those who hear what we speak– Jesus the Son of the Living God in His fullness. Creation is waiting on you. Take your place as a child of God. Do that which you profess. Spread the Gospel. It’s up to God to do the rest.
